11 Days after Albric's emergency room visit, Calvin ended up needing medical care. On Saturday, we decided to go to the park. As we started driving there, Mark instead headed up the canyon and we explored the Logan River Trail a bit. We went up on the mountain on the northern side of the road and we walked along an old pipeline. There were steep parts, and sheer drop offs, but we managed to stay safe.
We went out for some lunch, and then headed to the old Utah Theater for our ward activity. We were late, so we went up to the balcony to watch Coco. After the movie was over, we helped clean the theater. Calvin was running around on the balcony with other boys from the ward, and somehow cut his ear, but we managed to stay safe.
On the way home, Calvin realized that we had not gone to the park, and he begged to go to Merlin Olsen park. Albric was napping, so we laid him on a blanket in the shade and watched Calvin play on the playground. He was climbing up the tall ladder and sliding down the big tube slide. The last time he climbed up, another little boy was climbing up right behind him. He was at the top rung when he turned around to tell the other boy that it was his turn to climb up. When he turned around, he let go of the ladder and fell to the ground, landing on his left arm and then his face. It was really scary to see him fall and be so far away from him. I immediately jumped up, said to Mark, "Calvin fell off the ladder," and ran over to him. He had wood chips in his mouth and stuck to his forehead, chin, and cheek. He was crying and very sad. As we examined him he cried worse when we touched his arm close to his wrist. I wanted to take him to the doctor right away, but he wanted to stay and play some more. Mark convinced him to stop crying and looked at his arm some more. He decided that Calvin did indeed need to see a doctor.
We went home and then Calvin and I walked to the Instacare. We got x-rays and were told he had a buckle fracture of both his radius and ulna. They put a splint and a sling on him and sent us home.
On Monday, we were able to get in to see an orthopedic doctor. He had decided on a blue cast. We were able to get a waterproof cast so we can still go swimming on our vacation next month. We'll get the cast off in 4 weeks and we'll see how things are going then. I am grateful that he didn't break his neck. I am grateful that we didn't have to go to the emergency room this time. I am grateful that he didn't lose consciousness. I love him very much and I am proud of how brave he has been while seeing the doctor. He just didn't want to get any shots.
